ORIGINAL CD's
Umoja
about some of the songs -
Mazurati-
"This tune starts off very playful, ala' Prince,
but ushers in a serious tone of contemplation with the
keyboard strings. To me, it's as if
one is looking back on their life at
the end, and remembering certain times and loved ones."
My Geetah -
"A silly ditty expressing one's infatuation and ..
nay.. -even adoring love for the extra appendage,
the guitar. It starts off with Mr. Romance.... Barry White."
Wire and Wood
about some of the songs -
I -
"A story of the never-ending cycle of life."
Wire and Wood -
"The struggle of finding the heart and courage to remain
true of soul and respectful of the Earth, which is part of us,
as we attempt to advance technologically."
Maestros of Fusion
about some of the songs -
Wazzup Doc - Remember the Looney Tunes ACME assembly line?
Jambo - "Hello" in Swahili. I heard it everywhere in the
muddy marketplace in Kampala, Uganda.
Crossing del Jeyes - Every year the crabs on the small isle
of Cayman Brac form an army and cross the road by the
thousands. Traffic has to be stopped.
Once Again - A finale of the CD with quotes (interpelation)
from previos songs (including "The Boys in the Chorus"
from Bugs Bunny and the sacred Star Trek theme.
Classical Guitar
about some of the songs -
Drume Negrita - My mom's favorite. It is based on an African lullaby.
Estudio 7 - One of many involved sor pieces. It is difficult,
with all its physical pattern changes, to perform smooth.
Iwato Dream - This is the first recording featuring my self-designed,
customized 6 string bass.
Symettry
about some of the songs -
Alligators - this is the ever impromptu Mark McKnight
at his comedic best.
Paco- Dedicated to Paco De Lucia, in the way I have
previously paid homage to Stanley Clarke.
Absalom Branch- Because of King David's bad desicions, his karma was the retribution of his
own son's hate, but upon his approach, Absalom's hair hung him in the
tree branch, ending his assault. We must all stay clear of this kind of anger.
Sol Philosophy
about some of the songs...
Silence: fascinating line paraphrased from the Ana Cara-" long before humans arrived..
..there was ancient music here".
Distance: so glad to have Ms Tramayne back doing vocals on this one...silky smooth.
Advance: Aristotle paraphrased w/the old school crooning of Chris Williams.
Leemah
about some of the songs..
Jeni Comprez: dedicated to Jeni on the Vonage commercial.
Baby Prozac: certainly all of us have had a relationship like this at least once.
Moonlit Beach Silouette: my best friend, Shannon, and I went to a secluded beach late night.
She stood thigh deep in the waves as the giant moon cast her form as a shadow.
Fly Caramel: dedication to Caramel Lover from my 1st cd who has passed.
Bloodline
about some of the songs -
Liberator - I purposely recorded vovals on this one
at 8 A.M. Notice beautiful screech imperfection at final note.
Thx 2 U - I did these low vocals a bit out of character
with the rest of the CD (whats new?) Its in honor
of Miguel and Peter Steele of Type O Negative.
2 2 Trust - Slightly off timing, repetitive vocal harmonies at outro.
Derrick calls this a "happy mistake".
DNA
about some of the songs -
DNA -
"A statement on the belief that I have, that we're all
connected, no matter how much we deny it."
The Hill -
"I used to have to wear a brace on my diseased leg. I was
healed and the first thing I did was run down a grassy hill.
I've always loved to run since."
Eclectica
about some of the songs -
Spanish Funk-
"Two of my favorite types of music fused.
I grew up on earth, Wind, and Fire and Ohio Players."
Debap -
"One of many goofy songs I throw on CD's when I just get
in one of those Looney Tunes nonscence moods."
Dear Lenny -
"Dedicated to Lenny Kravitz."
Dyin To Live
about some of the songs -
Backstabbing Hate - Personifying hate itself and turning
upon it (where it once was my brother) to make it my enemy.
Now I Sit - This was originally written for a movie score
Found Content - The man in France wants to move to the U.S.
And the man in the U.S. wants to move to France.
Contentment is in the heart.
David Lee Redding
featuring Jasmine Rhey
about some of the songs -
Yo' Babies - Couldn't help it. A clear inspiration from Outkast
Quite Happy - Notice '007' quote at intro and end
Sky Rains Down- Good, 'tough' vocal exchange 'tween
Jasmine and I
Will You Pour Me - My ode to vino rojo
